The vectorizing algorithm used will depend upon the quality of the prints/films.  The VA/WG trace method
is the most rigorous and will track both peak and trough on good quality prints. The VAI (variable
area integration) method is extremely robust and will work on prints of fair to poor quality. The VA (variable
area) , the WG (wiggle trace ) and the VD (variable density) are specialist format algorithms for particular film formats.
